			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We invite you to submit your most creative piece of prose to the Third Annual Words Alive Short Story Contest presented by The Words Alive Literary Festival.   The Contest deadline is 6 p.m., September 10<sup>th</sup>, 2009.</p>
<p>Winners will be published on the Words Alive Website and will have the chance to read their work to an audience at the Festival on Sunday, September 20<sup>th</sup>, 2009.</p>

<p>Now is the time to send us your fiction! Enter your story in our Second Annual Fiction Contest at Cahoots Magazine. We&#8217;re looking for pieces that speak to us, are tight and well written, and carry on the spirit of this conversation we&#8217;re calling a magazine. Beyond that, the theme, topic, and style are up to you! Check out our <a href="http://www.cahootsmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=blogsection&amp;id=24" target="_blank">Fiction section</a> to see what has impressed us in the past.</p>
<p>Our first place prize package is chock full of fabulous products contributed by businesses, writers, and artists from the Cahoots community. The winning piece of fiction will be published in the Summer 2009 issue of Cahoots Magazine, and the winner will receive the grand prize package containing art, books, CDs, and products worth over $1000 from Cahoots Contest Sponsors! Runners-up will be published in Cahoots Magazine.</p>

<p>Get your piece to us through our <a href="http://www.cahootsmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_performs&amp;formid=1&amp;Itemid=63" target="_blank">Submit</a> page on the website or by mail at the address below. Make sure to include your address, phone number, and email address. Hard copy entries will not be returned as we are trying to reduce paper and unnecessary use of resources. We will be in touch via email as to the status of your entry. Please limit your piece to 1500 words. A reading fee of $15 is payable by cheque to the address below. You can send up to two stories per entry.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Entries to the Writers’ Circle of Durham Region’s Annual Free Poetry contest for youth – ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS - ends January 31st!]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Entries to the Writers’ Circle of Durham Region’s Annual Free Poetry contest for youth – ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS &#8211; ends <strong>January 31st</strong>!</p>
<p>Poems on the theme of SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT are coming in from places as far away as India, Vietnam and Texas, but we have only received one entry from the greater Toronto area at this point.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.wcdr.org/wcdr25/?p=1000 " target="_blank">Full details</a></strong> are available on the WCDR website and there is a <strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=54512693320 " target="_blank">Facebook event page</a></strong> devoted to it as well.</p>
<p>Two of the three judges have been chosen:</p>
<ul>
<li>League of Canadian Poets member and Artistic Director of the longest running weekly poetry reading series in Canada, the Art Bar, Heather Cadsby.</li>
<li>The second is Michael Fraser, a Toronto poet (his new book is receiving rave reviews), High School English teacher and Artistic Director of The Plasticine Poetry reading series.</li>
</ul>
<p>A third prominent poet has been invited to be a judge, but has yet to confirm.</p>
<p>If there is anything you can think of to help us promote the contest to children please let us know.</p>
<p>We have a poster available for printing or emailing. If you are interested in a copy please email us and we will send you one.</p>
