Authors listed for the 2008 Giller Prize set to read at literary festival

Sharon, ON – The Words Alive Literary Festival congratulates authors Anthony De Sa and Mary Swan for making the 2008 Giller Prize long-list.

Both authors are appearing at Words Alive on Sunday, September 21st. Mary Swan is reading from The Boys in the Trees at 2PM and Anthony De Sa is reading from Barnacle Love at 5PM.

De Sa is nominated for his first book, a collection of short stories called Barnacle Love. His writing reveals the bitterness and disappointment of the immigrant experience. Comparisons have been drawn to Wayson Choy.

Swan’s nomination is for her debut novel, The Boys in the Trees. The story examines the volatile collisions between our best intentions–how a passing stranger can leave an indelible mark on our lives even as the people we know most intimately become alienated by tides of self-preservation and regret.

If you’d like to meet these acclaimed authors and listen to their readings, join us on Sunday at the beautiful and historic Sharon Temple, located just 40 minutes north of Toronto. The Words Alive schedule also includes poetry, storytelling, music, and workshops for aspiring authors. Admission to the festival is only $4 and parking is free.
