Adebe D.A. is a Toronto-born writer and graduate student in York University’s English program.  She has served as Assistant Editor at Existere – Journal of Arts and Literature, and was the 2007 York University poetry contest winner for her piece entitled “The Virtues of Love” as chosen by acclaimed writer and Griffin Poetry Prize shortlist nominee, Priscila Uppal.  She is also a founding member of S.T.E.P. U.P. – a poetry collective dedicated to helping young writers develop their spoken word skills – and poetry reviewer for Re:verse, an online youth publication and project of the League of Canadian Poets.  Her work has been featured in Canadian Woman Studies Journal, The Claremont Review, Canadian Literature and The Toronto Star, where her winning piece in the Toronto Poetry Competition was featured.  She currently holds the honour of Toronto’s Junior Poet Laureate and is the author of a chapbook entitled Sea Change (Burning Effigy Press, 2007).

Her debut full-length collection of poems, entitled Ex Nihilo, was published in 2010 with Frontenac House Press. Ex Nihilo is a collection attuned to the larger experience of moving on (ex-) from nihilistic attitudes (nihilo) as it also relates to the ability (in its original Latin etymology) to create “something out of nothing.”

On July 21st, 2010 Ex Nihilowas longlisted for the prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize.
